Tennis Elbow & Golfers Elbow
What is Tennis Elbow and Golfers Elbow?
As you would expect Tennis Elbow and Golfers Elbow are often seen in sports men and women – but you don’t have to play tennis or golf to suffer from them! They can actually be caused by any sport or activity with a repetitive element which can cause wear and tear on the elbow joint.
The trouble with Tennis and Golfers Elbow is that once you have an issue with the joints they will be exacerbated by your everyday activities, and the pain may remain an ongoing problem even if you stop playing sport.
Tennis Elbow is the more common condition in which pain and tenderness are found around the outside of the elbow joint. Golfers Elbow is seen less frequently and its main symptom is pain around the inner side of the joint.
How we can help you
An osteopath can use a number of different treatments to help your symptoms. Massage and manipulation may help and we may gently manipulate the elbow, wrist, neck and upper back joints. We also know that pre-existing problems with your wrists, shoulders or neck can make you more prone to these conditions so we will ask you about these areas to see if they are having an impact on your symptoms.
We can also advise you on exercises to ease your symptoms and tell you which movements and activities may be best avoided. We may also offer advice on getting an elbow brace support or sports strapping.
We may ask for other tests to help with our diagnosis such as x-rays or scans. If we feel you need additional treatment or further investigations we will always refer you to your GP.
