What is Hip Pain?
Hip Pain is a common problem particularly as you get older. It can flair up at any time with some occurrences being worse than others. It will usually start to impact on your life and you may find that everyday activities such as walking or playing sports become painful or difficult.
There can be a number of different causes of hip pain:
- Pain can be the result of a hip injury or it can be referred pain from the back. This type of pain is often related to the way that you move your hip, your gait and your posture when standing.
- A tight, strained or overused muscle in the hip or the joint itself can cause pain.
- Osteoarthritis and general wear and tear on the hip as you get older is also painful and debilitating.
How we can help you
The treatment that we are able to offer depends on the level of wear and tear to the hip but osteopathy can definitely help to ease your symptoms and help you to manage pain flair ups better.
We will look at your lifestyle, personality and physical symptoms as a whole to help reduce hip pain. We can assess the way that you move your hip, help to strengthen and stretch your muscles and provide gentle massage which stretches the hip joint and reduces tension. This should greatly improve the mobility of your hip joint and has the added benefit of reducing any secondary problems too such as backache which can often be caused by hip pain.
We may ask for other tests to help with our diagnosis such as x-rays or scans. If we feel you need additional treatment or further investigations we will always refer you to your GP.
